Thunderbuck In The Badlands

October 16 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

For the first time in history, the THUNDERBUCK IN THE BADLANDS in Medicine Hat, Alberta, has been elevated to PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada’s elite Cup Series, bucking into Co-op Place Oct 16.

PBR Canada’s Cup Series regularly features Canada’s best riders alongside some of the league’s top international athletes, squaring off against the rankest bucking bulls from across the nation.

Fans will witness exhilarating 8-second rides and wrecks throughout the action-packed event as the PBR’s courageous bull-riding athletes face off against their 2,000-pound opponents.

“We were originally slated the host the Touring Pro Division, but after the PBR saw the overwhelming support of the community in 2019, and the superb production caliber of the event, asked us to elevate the Thunderbuck in the Badlands PBR to the tremendously popular Canada Cup Series. ” said Lorelle Halderman, Owner of Blazing Brand Marketing & Productions and organizer of the Thunderbuck in the Badlands PBR. “We are thrilled to bring the Medicine Hat community Canada’s premier professional bull riding series and look forward to growing the event in the seasons to come.”

In 2020, PBR Canada’ Cup Series held two sold-out events in both Calgary and Lethbridge, Alberta prior to the onset of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Following a 138-day hiatus from competition, the league championed the return of fan-attended professional sporting events in Canada, when the Canadian Cup Series held a double-header in Lethbridge on July 23. While the first event was made-for-TV, the later welcomed fans in a unique drive-in format.

The nation’s elite Cup Series then punctuated the historic season with the three-day, four-event 2020 PBR Canada National Finals in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

Despite the limited competition opportunities, the 2020 season bore witness to an intense national title race.

Delivering one of the most consistent seasons ever on Canadian soil, four-time PBR World Finals qualifier Dakota Buttar (Kindersley, Saskatchewan) went a torrid 18-for-25 (72%), notably covering a record-setting 11 bulls to begin the year, winning six events en route to capturing the 2020 PBR Canada Championship.

The year also included a come-from-behind surge from two-time PBR Canada Champion Zane Lambert (Ponoka, Alberta), who delivered a runner-up finish and victory at the four-event Canadian National Finals to finish runner-up to Buttar.

The 2020 season also included Top-10 efforts from Saskatchewan standouts, Jared Parsonage (Maple Creek, Saskatchewan), who finished the year No. 7, and three-time PBR Canada Champion Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan), who concluded the campaign No. 8.

“When the PBR debuted in Medicine Hat in 2019, fans got the rare opportunity to cheer on local bull riders Dakota Buttar and Jared Parsonage, and the icing on the cake was when Buttar took home the championship in front of a hometown crowd,” Halderman added. “Our 2019 event was an incredibly thrilling action-packed evening, and this season fans are in for even more excitement with the increased production and competition that the Cup Series is known for. We are excited to contribute to the area’s tourism industry with the fanbase, tour personnel, competitors, stock contractors and more that will travel to Medicine Hat come October.”
